Job Summary
You will function as a Survey Technician with the Army Corps of Engineers, Nashville District, Engineering and Construction Division, located in Nashville, TN.
Major Duties
- Ensures all operations are conducted safely, meets the desired objectives, and satisfies all applicable standards and guidelines.
- Maintains proficiency in a wide range of surveying and computer-related disciplines and should stay abreast of new technology and methods.
- Processes and review all of the data while still in the field to ensure that data sets are complete and that all data anomalies have been addressed and resolved.
- Ensures that adequate control exists in the area and that sufficient survey shots are taken to adequately describe the area.
- Tests and evaluates new equipment and techniques, and as appropriate to implement new operational field procedures.
- Responsible for training the other members of the field crew in all aspects of the survey operations.
- Responsible for the creation of survey maps by the importing and processing of survey data inside Micro-station and other mapping platforms.
- Performs surveys using precise computerized and electronic equipment to measure and determine distances, elevations, areas, angels, land boundaries, and other features of the earth?s surface.

To qualify at the GS-07 grade level, you must have: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes experience in Land Surveying as a rodman and/or instrument person assisting in performing topographic, boundary, cadastral/geodetic, terrestrial laser scanning, UAS/UAV, construction staking, river and stream cross-section surveys, and monitoring surveys, as well as all other types of surveys. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06); OR Education: One full year of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as Surveying Technology; OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 18. Add the two percentages. To qualify at the GS-08 grade level, you must have: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes experience in Land Surveying as a rodman and/or instrument person and/or survey party chief providing minimal assistance in performing topographic, boundary, cadastral/geodetic, terrestrial laser scanning, UAS/UAV, construction staking, river and stream cross-section surveys, and monitoring surveys, as well as all other types of surveys. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07); OR Education: One and a half years of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as Surveying Technology; OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total semester hours minus 18) by 9. Add the two percentages. To qualify at the GS-09 grade level, you must have: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes experience in Land Surveying as a survey party chief performing topographic, boundary, cadastral/geodetic, terrestrial laser scanning, UAS/UAV, construction staking, river and stream cross-section surveys, and monitoring surveys, as well as all other types of surveys without the assistance of others. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07); OR Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this grade level, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted. Pay Range
$43,251.00 - $68,771.00
