President signs the STEM Education Act of 2015 into law

October 8, 2015

On October 8, 2015 President Obama signed into law the STEM Education Act of 2015 (H.R. 1020).

The bill requires the National Science Foundation (NSF) to continue awarding grants supporting educational activities and programs within STEM education disciplines, and advocates broadening the definition of STEM education to include computer science. The bill also amends the NSF Authorization Act of 2002 to allow candidates with bachelor’s degrees in science and mathematics to be eligible to receive NSF Teaching Fellowships, which were previously only available to teachers with master’s degrees.
