This February the President pitched a new climate change resilience fund to help communities across the country react to the impacts of climate change. At a speech in drought-stricken California, the President called upon Congress to approve his proposal, which would help communities deal with the intensification of extreme weather events and natural hazards.
The fund will focus on three things: Investing in new research to fortify communities against the impacts of climate change, helping communities plan and prepare contingency plans for future risks, and fund breakthrough technologies in infrastructure that will better withstand a changing climate.
Funding for the program will be included in the President’s fiscal year 2015 budget, which is expected to be released on March 4. The fund will require approval from Congress.
