Congressman David Schweikert (R-AZ) will take over for Rep. Chris Stewart (R-UT) as chairman of the House Science, Space and Technology Subcommittee on Environment. The Environment Subcommittee has jurisdiction over matters relating to environmental research, development and standards, including the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), remote sensing data, climate change research, and more.
The switch is part of a broader congressional shuffling, in which Reps. Stewart, Mark Amodei (R-NV) and Martha Roby (R-AL) will replace vacancies on the committee left by the resignations of Reps. Rodney Alexander (former, R-LA) and Jo Bonner (former, R-AL), and the death of C.W. Bill Young (former, R-FL) on the House Appropriations Committee.
