Median Annual Salaries of U.S. Geoscience Occupations

According to data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, median salaries for geoscience occupations increased by 4% overall from 2022 to 2023. The most significant salary increases were seen among atmospheric and space scientists (+10%), geoscience natural science managers (+9%), and geological technicians (+8%). However, hydrologic technicians experienced a 4% decrease in median salary during this period.

Salaries for geoscience occupations (darker colors in the chart) were higher than salaries for broad occupational categories (lighter colors in the chart) except in the case for most geoscience technician occupations. Additionally, other geoscience-related jobs such as cartographers and photogrammetrists, soil and plant scientists, and conservation scientists also had lower median salaries compared to broader occupational categories.
