ALEXANDRIA, Va. — The American Geosciences Institute (AGI) welcomes new members to the AGI Board of Directors and congratulates Keri A. Nutter as she takes office as AGI President. New and outgoing members of the Board of Directors are being recognized during the Friends of AGI Reception on October 17 at the Geological Society of America's GSA Connects 2023 meeting.

AGI welcomes the following members to their roles on the Board of Directors:

• Anna C. Shaughnessy (Boston, Massachusetts) - President Elect
• Douglas Bartlett (Scottsdale, Arizona) - Treasurer
• Shirley Jackson (New York, New York) - Member at Large

The new AGI President, Keri Nutter, is a Geoscience Manager at DOWL, a firm specializing in planning, surveying, engineering, environmental, and related services. A Certified Professional Geologist, Nutter is both an owner of DOWL and manager of a team of engineers and geologists. Nutter is a former president of the American Institute of Professional Geologists. She previously served as Secretary on the AGI Executive Committee as well as on the dues restructuring committee, the Wallace Scholarship committee, and AGI's Board of Directors as a Member at Large. Since earning her bachelor's degree in Geology at Washington State University in 2004, Nutter has gained over 17 years of experience in service and leadership for geoscience professional groups.

The new President Elect, Anna Shaughnessy, a retired geoscientist with the Earth Resources Laboratory of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), has expertise in energy and the role of applied geophysics in industry, academia, and society. She started her career as an interpreter geophysicist with Mobil Oil and worked in the energy industry for 30 years, primarily in exploration, technology development, and deployment. During her industry career, she held leadership roles at Mobil, Saudi Aramco, Texaco and Kerr-McGee. Shaughnessy transferred to the academic sector in 2011 and became the Executive Director of the Earth Resources Laboratory at MIT. Dr. Shaughnessy also is a former president of the Society of Exploration Geophysicists and served previously on the AGI Executive Committee as Secretary.

The new Treasurer, Douglas Bartlett, is co-founder and principal hydrogeologist of Clear Creek Associates groundwater consulting firm. Over nearly 40 years, Bartlett has built a reputation as a hydrogeologist with diverse experience in groundwater computer modeling, hydrogeologic investigations, and mining-related hydrogeologic services. He was a contributing author of the American Society of Civil Engineers' Environmental and Water Resources Institute (ASCE/EWRI) recent publication, "Standard Guidelines for Managed Aquifer Recharge." He is also former president of the American Institute of Professional Geologists.

The new Member at Large, Shirley Jackson, is a faculty member at York College/City University of New York in New York City and serves on the Executive Board of Directors of the Association for Women Geoscientists. She was selected for the "2072 Justice in Geoscience Writing Team," served as a speaker and mentor for professional development workshops for Geological Society of America (GSA) On To the Future (OTF) program at GSA Connects 2022, and is an active member of the AGI Intersociety Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee. Also, she is a member of the National Association of Black Geoscientists, the International Association for Geoscience Diversity, the American Geophysical Union, and GSA.
