ALEXANDRIA, Va. — With support from the ExxonMobil Exploration Company, the American Geosciences Institute (AGI) is recruiting teachers for the AGI/ExxonMobil Geoscience and STEM Teaching and Learning Academy (TLA) for elementary and middle school teachers.

Building on AGI's extensive experience with curriculum design and teacher professional development, the TLA is ideal for teachers who have recently entered Earth and space science teaching roles. The academy will include both face-to-face and online experiences. Together, these experiences will provide teachers with hands-on, data-rich Earth science teaching materials and techniques designed to help teachers build their own geoscience knowledge, professional networks, and familiarity with resources across the education community.

The 2023 TLA will begin with an introductory webinar on June 28. In-person TLA sessions will take place in Atlanta, Georgia, on July 16-19 for elementary school teachers (pre-kindergarten through grade 4) and on July 19-22 for the middle school teachers (grades 5-8). Four additional webinars will take place over the 2023-2024 academic year.

Participants will be provided with room and board in Atlanta for the TLA session they attend, and each participant will be reimbursed up to $200 for travel expenses.

Review of applications will begin May 1 and will continue until all spaces are filled.

Teachers can apply by completing the form. Learn more about the Elementary-Level TLA and the Middle School-Level TLA online.
