Workforce Report Released Summarizing the Geoscience Career Master's Preparation Survey

The results of a survey have been published in a report assessing the academic experiences of Master's candidates against the skill sets identified as valuable for non-academic working professionals. The study titled, "Geoscience Career Master's Preparation Survey" sought to understand students' experiences within geology, geography or hybrid geology-geography Master's programs, their career goals and interests, and how well they are being prepared to enter into non-academic positions.

Errata and Corrections: 2013 Status of Recent Geoscience Graduates Report

Alexandria, VA – Readers are advised to download the newly corrected version of the 2013 Status of Recent Geoscience Graduates report. An error was found in the title and x-axis labels on the figure on page 20. The data in the figure displays geoscience graduates that are seeking, or have accepted, a job position outside of the geosciences. AGI's Latest Geoscience Currents Examines the Community College to University Pathway in Texas

Community colleges are a key part of many four-year university students' post-secondary education pathways. According to AGI's 2011 Status of the Geoscience Workforce report, within the science and engineering disciplines, 67% of Bachelor's degree recipients, 58% of Master's degree recipients and 44% of Doctorates attended community college. Furthermore, within the geosciences, 52% of Bachelor's degree recipients, 40% of Master's degree recipients, and 21% of Doctorates attended community colleges.
