Former AGI Foundation Executive Director Jan van Sant Passes Away

ALEXANDRIA, Va. — The American Geosciences Institute (AGI) is saddened to share the news that colleague and friend Dr. Jan van Sant passed away on October 26, 2023, at the age of 91. Dr. van Sant served as Executive Director of the AGI Foundation for many years, raising more than $20 million and overseeing support for numerous AGI education programs and initiatives benefiting the geoscience community. Prior to that, his career spanned decades with ExxonMobil and Penzoil. In 1999, Dr. van Sant received AGI's William B. Heroy Jr. Award for Distinguished Service to AGI.

Senator Hickenlooper Helps Kick Off AGI Special Session at GSA Connects 2022

ALEXANDRIA, Va. — Colorado Senator John Hickenlooper will be among the featured speakers at "The American Geosciences Institute at 75: Implementing a Vision of Sustainability as a Unifying Geoscience Framework," a Special Session of the Geological Society of America's GSA Connects 2022 National Conference, 8 a.m.-5:30 p.m. MDT, Monday, October 10, 2002, in the Mile High Ballroom 2C, Colorado Convention Center, Denver, Colorado.

American Geosciences Institute Announces Dr. Jonathan Arthur as New Executive Director

ALEXANDRIA, Va. – The American Geosciences Institute (AGI) is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Jonathan Arthur as its new Executive Director.  He will be joining AGI on August 1, 2021. Dr. Arthur comes to AGI from the Florida Geological Survey, where he most recently served as Director and State Geologist.
