The American Association of Geographers (AAG) penned a letter to Congress regarding S. 103 and H.R. 482. AGI, and 26 other organizations have signed on in support. The bill provides that “…no Federal funds may be used to design, build, maintain, utilize, or provide access to a Federal database of geospatial information on community racial disparities or disparities in access to affordable housing.” While the content of the geospatial databases mentioned in the bill is outside the geosciences, AGI believes any restrictions on the collection of geospatial data would set a bad precedent.
