After emceeing a screening of the 2016 film, "Deepwater Horizon," with 100 Colorado School of Mines petroleum engineering students, J. A. Turley (Society of Petroleum Engineers Distinguished Lecturer, 2015-16) wrote this thoughtful review in the American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG)'s Spheres of Influence newsletter. Turley praises the film's portrayal of the events, but emphasizes a key question that the film does not totally address: what caused the blowout?
