AGI Collaborates with Experts on New "Leadership in Diversity" Initiative

The American Geosciences Institute (AGI) is excited to announce its participation in the National Science Foundation's Geoscience Opportunities for Leadership in Diversity (GOLD) program. Five projects were funded through the GOLD solicitation, which "seeks to cultivate a new generation of leaders within the geosciences research and education communities who have the passion, the knowledge, the skills, and the tools to catalyze high-impact efforts to broaden participation of traditionally underrepresented minorities in the geosciences education pipeline and workforce."

The American Geophysical Union has completed a review of its Ethics Policy, and the proposed language now identifies harassment as a form of scientific misconduct. The changes come following the formation of a task force last June to focus on "harassment and work-climate issues." The proposed language is available on AGU's website and is available for comment through April 28, 2017.

AGI Awards Diversity Grants to Geoscientists Studying Deep Carbon

The American Geosciences Institute is pleased to announce the latest award recipients of the Deep Carbon Observatory (DCO) Diversity Grants. This was the final round of awards for the current two-year project supported by the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation. During the course of this project, AGI supported a total of 14 traditionally underrepresented geoscientists to participate in DCO-related research, events, and field experiences. A review of the project and its findings was presented at the 2016 Geological Society of America Annual Meeting.
