The American Geosciences Institute (AGI) is pleased to announce that all abstracts submitted to the Virtual Poster Showcase (VPS), a student event organized by the American Geophysical Union (AGU), will be listed in GeoRef, AGI's premier database for geoscientific literature.

The Council on Undergraduate Research (CUR) unanimously approved a Code of Ethics statement at its Annual Business Meeting in July. It will serve as guide for students, faculty, and administrators as they pursue undergraduate research, scholarship, and creative activities.

AGU Fall 2017 Virtual Poster Showcase #geoscience #highered

American Geophysical Union

The American Geophysical Union (AGU) announced the registration and abstract submission period is open for the Fall 2017 Virtual Poster Showcase (VPS). Traditionally, some students are unable to participation in traditional conferences due to timing or financial constraints and missing out on valuable resume building experience. VPS was launched as a way to give all students the opportunity to present their research to the broader scientific community via a virtual platform. AGI Publishes Geoscience Currents #117 #workforce #highered

In last week's Geoscience Currents #117, AGI's Workforce Program examines latest in enrollments and degrees granted in geoscience programs in the United States. In 2015-2016 undergraduate enrollments slipped about 5%, while graduate enrollments dipped slightly, meanwhile bachelor's and doctoral degrees rebounded, and master's degrees dropped.

The Council on Undergraduate Research (CUR) is seeking input following the release of President Trump's budget - one which CUR has already publicly opposed. Members are being asked to identify where the budget cuts will affect them, and their labs, the most. Addtionally, members are encouraged to highlight success stories of undergraduate research. Submit comments to cur[at]cur.org, and include "2018 Federal Budget Impacts" in the subject line.

New Geoscience Student Exit Survey Reflects Evolving Opportunities for Recent Graduates

Alexandria, VA - The American Geosciences Institute (AGI) Workforce Program announces the release of its annual Status of Recent Geoscience Graduates report. The report details the results of the 2016 Geoscience Student Exit Survey, documenting trends trends in geoscience coursework, enrollment, student experiences, as well as a recent shift in hiring patterns for new graduates.
