The American Geosciences Institute (AGI) welcomes new members to the AGI Executive Committee and congratulates Dr. Rodney C. Ewing as he takes office as AGI President. The new and departing members of the Executive Committee were recognized at the Friends of AGI Reception on November 5, 2018, in Indianapolis, Ind.

Aligned with ongoing efforts to enhance diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility in the sciences, the American Geosciences Institute (AGI) is proud to announce the theme for Earth Science Week 2019: Geoscience Is for Everyone. The next Earth Science Week will be celebrated October 13-19, 2019.

New Earth as Inspiration Chapter Highlights Collaborative Field Experience at Valles Caldera

As featured in a new Earth as Inspiration video released today, the American Geosciences Institute (AGI) and its partners joined together in late September to facilitate an outstanding day of outdoor earth science learning. Eighth-grade students from two local schools worked with Earth Science Education Ambassador Sally Jewell and additional geoscientists to explore and understand the structure, deposits, and hazards posed by volcanoes in their own backyard.

The American Geosciences Institute (AGI) is pleased to recognize Dr. David Applegate, Associate Director for Natural Hazards at the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), as the 2018 recipient of the AGI Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Public Understanding of the Geosciences.

The American Geosciences Institute (AGI) is pleased to recognize Dr. Scott W. Tinker, Director and State Geologist of Texas, Bureau of Economic Geology, and Professor at the Jackson School of Geosciences at the University of Texas at Austin, as the 2018 recipient of the AGI Medal in Memory of Ian Campbell for Superlative Service to the Geosciences, AGI’s highest award.
