Earth Science Week 2020 Contests Offer Educational Opportunities

ALEXANDRIA, Va. — Recognizing the need to provide educational activities that young people and others can pursue at home during this challenging time, American Geosciences Institute (AGI) is opening submissions for its Earth Science Week contests earlier than usual this year.

AGI is sponsoring four contests honoring this year's theme, "Earth Materials in Our Lives," for this year's Earth Science Week (October 11-17, 2020). This year's competitions will feature the traditional video, photography, visual arts, and essay contests:

AGI Offers Free and Reduced-Price Resources for Geoscientists

ALEXANDRIA, Va. - To assist geoscience professionals, educators, and students at a time when many are working remotely or in new ways, the American Geosciences Institute (AGI) has issued a series of recent announcements on electronic resources currently available for free or at reduced prices, including AGI's Glossary of Geology, Geoscience Handbook, professional development modules, and education resources.
 

Jakob Lindaas Named 2020-2021 AGI Fisher Congressional Fellow

ALEXANDRIA, Va. - The American Geosciences Institute (AGI) congratulates Jakob Lindaas on his selection as the 2020-2021 William L. Fisher Congressional Geoscience Fellow. The Fisher Fellowship offers geoscientists the unique opportunity to spend a year in Washington, D.C., working as a staff member in the office of a member of Congress or with a congressional committee.
 

International Raw Materials Observatory Becomes Earth Science Week 2020 Global Sponsor

Nominations Invited for AGI/ExxonMobil Exploration Teacher Leadership Academy

ALEXANDRIA, Va. – The American Geosciences Institute (AGI) currently is inviting school administrators to nominate teachers for a unique professional development experience, the 12th annual AGI/ExxonMobil Exploration Teacher Leadership Academy.

Each year, K-8 teachers from around the country meet in Houston for the weeklong Teacher Leadership Academy, in which they learn Earth science content, explore hands-on STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) activities, gain real-world science experiences, and begin their journey as STEM education leaders.

Earth Science Week 2020 Theme Announced: 'Earth Materials in Our Lives'

ALEXANDRIA, Va. — The American Geosciences Institute (AGI) is pleased to announce that the theme of Earth Science Week 2020 will be "Earth Materials in Our Lives." The coming year's event, to be held October 11-17, 2020, will focus on the ways that Earth materials impact humans — and the ways human activity impacts these materials — in the 21st century.
 

Unifying the Geosciences: Read AGI's 2019 Annual Report

ALEXANDRIA, Va. - The American Geosciences Institute (AGI) is pleased to share its annual report, "Unifying the Geosciences," which recounts the accomplishments of AGI and the geoscience community from October 2018 to September 2019.
