Interactive map of Louisiana's geology and water resources

The Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality's Interactive Mapping Application provides information on Louisiana's geology and water resources in interactive map form, including:

  • Air and water quality monitoring
  • Surface geology
  • Aquifers
  • Hydrology
  • Soils

Users can access local information with additional details by clicking on areas of the map or entering GPS co-ordinates.

Interactive map of the geology of Michigan

The Michigan Geological Survey's GIS website hosts interactive maps of the surface and bedrock geology of Michigan.

The geological maps can be overlain on street, topographic or aerial photographic maps. The GIS data used to create these maps can be purchased on the website for further use and analysis.

Interactive map of coal mines in Iowa

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources's (DNR) interactive map of coal mines in Iowa shows the locations of coal mines and mine entrances throughout Iowa, and also has the option to search the map by street address. Users may click on the map to access information about mine use dates, type, mining method, entrance type, and links to original mine maps.

Map of the surface geology of Hawaii

The United States Geological Survey's (USGS) geologic map of the state of Hawai'i provides a series of printable color maps of the surface geology for each island in the state of Hawai'i. Users can also download metadata for the maps, GIS database files, and spreadsheets of geochemical and radiometric age data for different lava flows.
