SSA: Session Proposal Deadline October 1

The Sesimological Society of America is seeking submissions for special sessions for their 2017 Annual Meeting. The deadline to submit is October 1, 2016. They encourage geoscientists to submit a session on cutting-edge research, methodology and technology developments and sessions are encouraged from across the broad fields of earthquake science, geotechnical and earthquake engineering, and seismology.

The Society for Mining and Metallurgy Exploration, Inc. (SME) announced that the Team Concepts for the Move Mining competition are due December 1st, 2016. This is a competition created to raise awareness of mining and the value of mining in society.

AGU: Workshop Targets Sexual Harassment in the Sciences

The American Geophysical Union (AGU) publication EOS published "AGU-Sponsored Workshop Targets Sexual Harassment in the Sciences" an article summarizing highlights from their workshop held September 9th, 2016 at their headquarters. The article covers the history of sexual harassment in the sciences, and notes that fieldwork tends to exacerbate harassment problems. 

AGI Welcomes its 2016-2017 Executive Committee

The American Geosciences Institute is pleased to welcome Dr. Eve S. Sprunt as its President-Elect, Keri A. Nutter as Secretary and Dr. Carolyn Olson as the Member at Large to its 2016-2017 Executive Committee. These distinguished individuals will begin their leadership roles on September 27, 2016 at the Geological Society of America Annual Meeting in Denver.
