Interactive map of earthquakes in Montana

The Montana Bureau of Mines and Geology provides an online interactive map of earthquake information for Montana, much of Idaho and Wyoming, and nearby areas of Washington, Oregon, North Dakota, South Dakota, Alberta, and British Columbia.

The map provides the locations, dates, and magnitudes of historical earthquakes. For Montana only, additional map data include recently active faults, seismic hazard zones, and a generalized geologic map.

Visualization of earthquake risk in California

In 2015. the Working Group on California Earthquake Probabilities - a collaboration between the U.S. Geological Survey, the California Geological Survey, and the Southern California Earthquake Center (SCEC) - released the Third California Earthquake Rupture Forecast (UCERF3). A visualization was produced to accompany this release, showing the progress of fault modelling in California and the updated earthquake likelihood map.

Interactive map of South Dakota's geology and natural resources

The South Dakota Geological Survey's Oil and Gas Resources map provides a large amount of information on South Dakota's geology and natural resources, including:

  • Surface and bedrock geology
  • Earthquakes
  • Water quality
  • Oil and gas fields and wells

The map allows users to select multiple layers that can be overlain on each other. By doing this, users can see how different features are related. More detailed data for specific locations can also be accessed through the map.

Interactive map of geothermal wells and springs in Oregon

The Oregon Department of Geology and Mineral Industries' Geothermal Information Layer for Oregon is an interactive map that allows users to locate geothermal wells and springs in Oregon, as well as direct use areas.

Temperature information is provided for many of the geothermal springs, and all of the data can be downloaded for further use and analysis.

Interactive map of mineral resources in New York State

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation's Mineral Resources Navigator provides an interactive map of mines, oil and gas wells, and other regulated wells in New York State.

The map is updated nightly, and can be used to find locations and permitting and operating dates for thousands of mines and wells across the state.

Interactive map of Louisiana's geology and water resources

The Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality's Interactive Mapping Application provides information on Louisiana's geology and water resources in interactive map form, including:

  • Air and water quality monitoring
  • Surface geology
  • Aquifers
  • Hydrology
  • Soils

Users can access local information with additional details by clicking on areas of the map or entering GPS co-ordinates.
