NSF- The National Science Foundation (NSF) published a notice of a permit application to conduct activities regulated under the Antarctic Conservation Act of 1978. Comments with respect to this permit application may be submitted by November 6, 2014. [Tuesday, October 7 (Volume 79, Number 194)]

EPA- The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) held a public teleconference of the National Advisory Council for Environmental Policy and Technology (NACEPT). NACEPT provides the EPA with advice on environmental policy, technology, and management. The goal of the meeting was to develop sustainability strategies supporting the principles and practices outlined in the FY2014-2018 EPA Strategic Plan. NSF- The National Science Foundation (NSF) Advisory Committee for Geosciences is holding an open meeting to provide advice, recommendations, and oversight on support for geoscience research and education including atmospheric, geo-space, earth, ocean and polar sciences. The meeting will be held October 29, 2014 9:00am to 5:00pm and October 30, 2014 8:30am to 2:00pm in Stafford I, Room 375, National Science Foundation, 4201 Wilson Blvd, Arlington VA 22230. NSF- The National Science Foundation (NSF) Astronomy and Astrophysics Advisory Committee is holding an open meeting to provide advice and recommendations to NSF, NASA, and the Department of Energy (DOE) on issues within the field of astronomy and astrophysics that is of mutual interest and concern to the agencies. The meeting will be held November 17, 2014 9:00am to 5:00pm and November 18, 2014 9:00am to 12:00pm at the National Science Foundation, Room 555-II, Stafford II Building, 4121 Wilson Blvd, Arlington VA 22230. DOE- The Office of Fossil Energy (FE) of the Department of Energy gives notice that during August 2014, it issued orders granting authority to import and export natural gas, to import and export liquefied natural gas, and vacating prior authority. [Thursday, October 9 2014]

EPA- The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) are extending the comment period for the proposed rule “Definition of ‘Waters of the United States’ Under the Clean Water Act” published on April 21, 2014. Comments must now be received on or before November 14, 2014. [Tuesday, October 14 2014 (Volume 79, Number 199)]

NASA- The National Air and Space Administration (NASA) announced a meeting of the Planetary Science Subcommittee of the NASA Advisory Council (NAC). The goal of the meeting is to seek scientific and technical information relevant to program planning. The meeting will be held telephonically on November 21, 2014 from 12:00 to 3:00 pm. DOE - The Department of Energy (DOE) announced an open meeting of the Commission to Review the Effectiveness of the National Energy Laboratories. The Commission will review the natural laboratories’ priorities, missions, and capabilities, as well as consider further opportunities to utilize the laboratories to meet DOE goals. The meeting will be held November 4, 2014, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m; written statements are also accepted. [Monday, October 20 2014 (Volume 79, Number 202)]

DOI - The Department of Interior’s (DOI) Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) announced its intent to prepare an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for a proposed lease sale in Alaska’s Cook Inlet. The EIS will focus on potential effects of exploration and development of oil and gas resources. Public comments may be submitted until December 8. [Thursday October 23 2014 (Volume 79, Number 205)]

NSF - The National Science Foundation (NSF) is holding a meeting of the International Science and Engineering (ISE) advisory committee to discuss major goals and policies pertaining to ISE programs and activities. The meeting is open to the public and will occur virtually on November 6, 2014, 11:00 am to 2:00 pm. [Thursday October 23 2014 (Volume 79, Number 205)]

EPA- The Environmental Protection Agency has extended the comment period for the proposed rule titled “Carbon Pollution Emission Guidelines for Existing Stationary Sources: Electric Utility Generating Units” by 45 days. The original proposed rule included an incorrect digit in the docket number for the proposed rule; this proposed rule corrects that error. The correction is effective October 27, 2014. DOE- The Department of Energy Nuclear Science Advisory Committee (NSAC) is holding a meeting on November 17, 2014 at 9am to 5pm at the Hilton Washington DC/Rockville Hotel & Executive Meeting Center, 1750 Rockville Pike, Rockville, MA 20852. The meeting will be held to provide advice and guidance to the DOE and National Science Foundation on scientific priorities within the field of basic nuclear science research. DOI- The National Park Service is holding a meeting and requesting comments on the planning of the 2014 National Christmas Tree Lighting and subsequent 28-day event. The general plan and theme for the event is the celebration of the holiday season with the display of the traditional American symbols of Christmas. The meeting will be held on November 6, 9am in Room 234 of the National Capitol Region Headquarters Building, 1100 Ohio Dr. SW, Washington DC. Comments must be received by November 6. NASA- The National Aeronautics and Space Administration Advisory Council (NAC) Institution Committee is holding a meeting to discuss workforce, processing, facilities and IT overview, and the status of the Technical Capabilities Assessment Team. The meeting will be held on November 19, 9am-5pm and November 20, 9am-3:30pm at NASA Headquarters, 300 E Street SW, Room 1Q39, Washington DC 20024. DOE- The Department of Energy (DOE)/National Science Foundation (NSF) High Energy Physics Advisory Panel is holding a meeting to provide advice and guidance on a continuing basis to the DOE/NSF on scientific priorities within the field of high energy physics research. The meeting will be held on December 9, 8:30am-6pm and December 10, 8:30am-4pm at the Doubletree Hilton Hotel, 8120 Wisconsin Ave, Bethesda MD 20814.
