The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and the Japanese Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) recently announced the launch date for a new joint-venture satellite. The new satellite, set to launch on February 27, is equipped with a Global Precipitation Measurement Core Observatory which will provide advanced observations for rain and snowfall around the world. The satellite will greatly enhance weather forecasting and contribute to environmental data and research. The satellite is so advanced that it will be able to detect light versus heavy rainfall, and measure the size and distribution of raindrops, snowflakes, and ice particles.
